The Doctor’s Order

gourmez3General Hospital became an action flick this week with women in the role of kick-ass hero, and I loved it! Our writers get that you can’t have a Scorpio storyline without scenes that hanker back to GH’s glory days of ridiculous spy stories. They get that linking Luke’s kidnapping and poisoning with Cesar Faison and Jerry Jacks makes for a wide-ranging storyline that affects nearly the whole canvas.  They get that Robin doesn’t have to have spy training to fight her way out of a situation, but using her brain is just as effective. And I’ve enjoyed every second of this plot, even the ones that hurt.

The Doctor’s Order

gourmez3Those of you who have read my column in the past two years know few things could bring me greater joy than the gift General Hospital gave us recently. That gift, of course, was the death of Connie Falconeri. It’s only the second time this incarnation of Kate Howard has delighted me. The first was a moment I will forever treasure: her unforgettable slaughtering of Sonny’s birthday cake.

The Doctor’s Order

gourmez3Bringing back Franco and forcing the characters to deal with his sudden presence in their lives has been interesting, because they’ve all reacted so differently. The Quartermaines interested in the CEO position have taken the news of their wretched new relative in stride, probably both because his vote matters to their self-interests and because Quartermaines try to commit murder as a rite of passage. Then they forgive and move on. Then there’s Carly and Sonny’s response…

The Doctor’s Order

gourmez3

I am enjoying General Hospital far more than I have in years, but for the past few weeks, the only storyline that has my full attention is Liz’s triangle. And that attention is in no small part due to the beautiful suit AJ wore during the Chew shenanigans. Sean Kanan is looking the best he has since his return.

gourmez3Apologies for the delay in posting a new column! That’s what happens when strep and a fever knocks you off your booty for a week. We’re charging ahead at a breakneck speed with some plots, but I can’t complain if they’re as entertaining as Brenda’s liaison with Michael.

The Doctor’s Order

gourmez3I didn’t think it could happen. But with the nostalgia fest that is this 50th anniversary year, it has. What is this surprising turn of events? That my Sonny and Brenda heart still beats despite knowing Vanessa Marcil is here on only a limited engagement. Despite being subjected to a year of Sonny supporting both a vapid fiancé and her highly obnoxious, annoying, time-sucking mess of an alter. Despite being fully aware that toxic is the definition of Sonny and Brenda’s relationship. Despite all that, I still love ‘em.

gourmez3Kisses were exchanged like currency this week at General Hospital, but they didn’t seem to buy relationship advancement. What’s that all about? I’m glad Carly cut off her transaction with Todd, but why didn’t Sam take McBain to the bank?

The Doctor’s Order

gourmez3Can you feel it in the air? There’s an action adventure storyline coming, and it will involve Robin, the Scorpios, the Joneses, the Spencers, the everyones. The Ice Princess will tie in, too, and maybe Pickle Lila is the key to disabling it. Whatever’s coming, it will be glorious. And I will be watching.

The Doctor’s Order

gourmez3We have vampires and slayers, Pickle Lila and the missing Q heir, Frisco swearing to seduce Felicia once again, and Laura in town. These storylines have a lot of potential, but so many of them are just having their groundwork laid. Is it a problem that Kristina attacking Connie engaged me the most?

gourmez3Sleeping with two guys on the same day and having a paternity issue arise is a soap staple. Which means I have to give the writing team props for tweaking that plot twist into losing one baby and conceiving another on the same night. It’s original, at least. But as my tone may indicate, I’m still not thrilled with the existence of a little Jackal.
