Those of you who have read my column in the past two years know few things could bring me greater joy than the gift General Hospital gave us recently. That gift, of course, was the death of Connie Falconeri. It’s only the second time this incarnation of Kate Howard has delighted me. The first was a moment I will forever treasure: her unforgettable slaughtering of Sonny’s birthday cake.

Bringing back Franco and forcing the characters to deal with his sudden presence in their lives has been interesting, because they’ve all reacted so differently. The Quartermaines interested in the CEO position have taken the news of their wretched new relative in stride, probably both because his vote matters to their self-interests and because Quartermaines try to commit murder as a rite of passage. Then they forgive and move on. Then there’s Carly and Sonny’s response…

Welcome to my first prescription for General Hospital of 2013! These two weeks have surprised me with unexpectedly hot love scenes and curveballs regarding who was most injured in the crash. Sorry, Trey. Most surprising for me, however, was that Connie showed signs of a conscience … and I cared.
